How To Store Soiled Cloth Diapers Between Washes
Properly storing dirty cloth diapers between washes is essential to maintain hygiene and prevent your cloth diapers from unpleasant odors and stains. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your cloth diapers stay fresh and ready for the next wash.
1. Remove solid waste
Before tossing your dirty cloth diapers into the diaper pail/wet bag, it is important to remove any solid waste. This step helps prevent staining and makes the cleaning process easier. Just knock solids into the toilet directly, a sprayer or using disposable diaper liners will help to eliminate as much residual waste as possible.
2. Use a diaper pail/laundry basket/plastic bin
You can use any container which makes it easy to dump the soiled cloth diapers diapers into your washing machine. A reusable pail liner will be a must-have in this case, which is a bag with PUL waterproof layer. It can be kept closed and washed together with your cloth diapers.
3. Consider wet bags
It is a more portable option, especially on the go. Mama Koala wet bags are made of fabrics with the same breathable waterproof layer as our cloth diapers. They are designed with two separate compartments for storing clean/dirty diapers as well as other items a baby might need. The zipper closures will keep odors at bay.
Tips:
♦ No matter what you use to store dirty cloth diapers, make sure to store them in a COOL and DRY place, which is away from heat, humidity, or direct sunlight.
♦ Wash regularly. We recommend storing the soiled diapers for no more than THREE days to prevent the buildup of bacteria and odors.
♦ Store them in a designated container separated from other household items.
♦ Keep your storage container well-ventilated. Good air circulation will help to minimize odors and prevent bacterial growth.
♦ For exclusive breastfeeding babies, you don’t have to remove the waste from the dirty cloth diapers because it's water soluble and easy to clean.
♦ Prepare at least 2 diaper pail liners or wet bags so that you have one for storing dirty cloth diapers while the other is in the wash.
♦ Please don't soak your cloth diapers in a wet bucket for a long time, especially one that has bleach or any other caustic solution in it.
4. How to store cloth diapers long-term
♦ Make sure the diapers are thoroughly CLEAN and DRY.
♦ Sun out any stains before storing the diapers to avoid stubborn stains.
♦ Store in a breathable container and in a cool & dry location.
♦ Pack "loosely", allowing air to circulate.
♦ Store in an area that doesn't fluctuate in temperature.
♦ Wash again as usual before using.
